Logic Pro X is a professional recording studio for producing music. It contains a complete set of tools to write, record, edit, and mix music on your Mac.
Relatively easy to use for a pro package
Logic Pro X includes a huge collection of instruments, effects, and loops, making it surprisingly easy to create professional sounding compositions. There are even production templates which do a lot of the hard work for you leaving you to fill in the blanks to make the song yours. However, although it's relatively easy to use compared to similar packages, it's still a professional tool with a steep learning curve.
Packed with instruments, effects and samples
Specifically, there are over one thousand different built-in instruments or samples including synths, vintage keyboards, a drum machine and sampler. In addition, there are over a hunfred effects including reverbs, delays, EQs, dynamics, amps and stompboxes. In total, there are over 1500 sampled instruments or effects to choose plus 3,600 Apple Loops in different genres to give you a base to build from. If you're a Garageband fan, Logic Pro X is also integrated with GarageBand meaning you can import projects into it instantly. The latest version has been enhanced with a companion iPad app, Virtual Drummer (a drummer that intelligently plays along to your compositions) and Flex Pitch which provides integrated pitch editing.
Very resource hungry
Logic Pro X is an all round monster of an application. You need at least 5GB of space to download it plus there are an extra 35GB of in-app downloads available. In addition to this, you'll need at least 4GB of RAM for Logic Pro X to run smoothly. However, most Macs post 2011 should be able to handle this easily. Overall usability of Logic Pro X is excellent too. The latest version has been given a revamped interface which is a definite improvement on previous versions making it more user friendly.
One of the best music creation packages for Mac
Logic Pro X remains one of the best musical production studios available for Mac. It offers all the pro features you'd expect in such a package but remains relatively user friendly.
Recent changes
- This update improves overall stability and performance issues including:
- • Fixes an issue that could cause content downloading to stall
- • 24-bit audio files are no longer converted to 16-bit when exporting projects to AAF
- • Improves stability when switching between audio editors while Flex Pitch is enabled
- • Track Stacks that contain both software instrument and audio tracks will no longer be inadvertently flattened by loading a Patch
- • Tuner is now available when selecting a Track Stack containing audio tracks
- • Addresses graphic and selection behavior issues in the Score Editor
- This release is recommended for all Logic Pro X customers.
